Natalia N. Thawe
Founder and Principal Lawyer
Natalia is a highly skilled intellectual property (IP) lawyer and registered Canadian patent agent. Before establishing Thawe Intellectual Property Law, Natalia practiced as an IP litigator for several years at a leading international full-service law firm.
Natalia has represented clients ranging from large multinational corporations to small and medium-sized businesses across industries, including pharmaceuticals, computer software, aerospace, manufacturing, and consumer products. She has appeared before the Federal Court of Canada, Federal Court of Appeal, and the Patent Appeal Board.
Natalia has assisted clients with patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, IP licensing, and pharmaceutical regulatory matters. She has assisted clients with drafting and prosecuting patent applications for a broad range of technologies, including pharmaceuticals, chemicals, materials, protein-related technologies, medical devices, sports equipment, and various consumer products.
Prior to law, Natalia obtained her Master of Science degree in Molecular Genetics and her Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Toronto. Following her studies, she worked in clinical research for an internationally recognized hospital in Toronto.
By leveraging this diverse experience, Thawe Intellectual Property Law advises clients on a wide range of IP matters and provides strategic, comprehensive, and practical solutions to clients navigating the complexities of the IP landscape. Our firm is dedicated to understanding each client's specific business goals and providing a legal strategy that is designed to protect and maximize the value of their IP assets.
Natalia is deeply committed to supporting and empowering Black entrepreneurs and businesses owned by Black individuals and other persons of colour by providing the legal support they need to protect their innovations, as well as strategies to address their unique challenges. Natalia strives to foster long-term business growth and success for all of her clients. Natalia also enjoys mentoring junior lawyers, law students, and youth, sharing her knowledge and experience through organizations and groups that nurture talent from the Black community and other communities of colour.
Outside of her law practice, Natalia is an avid music enthusiast, playing the violin as well as the piano. She enjoys traveling and also brushing up on her French and Mandarin language skills, while embracing the outdoors by hiking with her two beautiful Siberian huskies.
